Meeting with a therapist for the first time can be intimidating, stressful and anxiety-provoking. It is our hope that providing you with some information about what to expect, we can alleviate some of the nerves, so you can feel empowered in taking this first step.
The purpose of the consultation is to make sure your therapist feels like a good fit for you. The importance of chemistry and rapport between therapist and client is undeniable. Though you may not know or trust your therapist just yet, you will have a sense of whether or not you can see yourself speaking freely with them about things that are important or difficult.
If you’d like, you can share a little about what you’re experiencing and what you hope to get out of therapy. We encourage you to ask any questions, the way we work, what happens in therapy, or details about payment and scheduling.
We want you to find the therapist who feels right for you. You may not be a fit for our training, so the consultation is important in that regard too. It may be more helpful for you to work with someone with other specialized training or expertise to help you reach your goals. In this case, we may be able to refer you to someone who may be a better fit than we would be.
After our consultation, take all the time you need to check-in with your gut and decide if you’d like to proceed in making an appointment. There is no pressure to schedule and you can be in touch after you’ve had time to consider whether or not you’d like to work together
