    Registered Counselling Therapist

    Hello,

My name is Amanda Dupupet (she/her) and I am a registered counselling therapist (candidate) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists; in addition, I hold a bachelors degree in music therapy. Working with me can be talk therapy alone, or include a combination of talk therapy augmented with music. I am passionate about working with people to provide support with anxiety, trauma, grief and life transitions. A particular focus of my practice includes supporting individuals through the transition to parenthood and potential associated obstacles such as fertility challenges, grief and loss, birth trauma, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, attachment and bonding with baby, and navigating identity changes.

I use a trauma-informed, strength-based approach to empower you to overcome, heal and build a stronger family. A combination of approaches are used including narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and mindfulness; with elements of internal family systems, somatic experiencing and psychodynamic theories which are grounded in a supportive, collaborative, client-centred therapeutic relationship.

I have long been passionate about helping families through the perinatal period. As part of my internship as a music therapist, I worked in a Neonatal Intensive Care unit supporting families and their premature or critically ill infants in Melbourne, Australia. I also previously ran a private music therapy practice focused on offering developmentally appropriate music therapy programs to parents and their young children. As a music therapist, I have worked with a variety of different populations including older adults with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, adults recovering from stroke or traumatic brain injury, children with autism and people with Down’s Syndrome. I have also completed training as a HypnoBirthing instructor.
