Hello, I am a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and Certified Canadian Counsellor Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

I work with individuals across the lifespan and I have a particular passion for promoting and facilitating emotional wellness among children and adolescents. In my previous work as an Early Childhood Educator, I frequently found myself wanting to support young people develop emotional resilience. I soon quickly realized I wanted to go beyond what was capable in a classroom and help children and youth in a one-on-one setting.

My therapeutic style is generated through the lens of attachment theory, and I believe that helping young people and their families strengthen their connections is key for healing. I work from a trauma-informed foundation and have worked with children, adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, and other general mental health concerns, using a variety of therapeutic modalities. I have formal training in Cognitive Processing Therapy and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy. I also like to incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness, and creative art in session with my clients. I am currently enrolled as a Play Therapist student with the Maritime Play Therapy Centre working toward my Play Therapy certification.

As a therapist, I am warm, calm, and adaptable. I work with clients where they are at and adapt to my clients needs throughout each session. My initial goal is to form relationships with my clients and ensure they feel safe and heard. One way I do this is through play. A huge part of being a child, is play. I incorporate as much play and playfulness into my sessions with children as possible as this is how children connect with others and the world around them. I use games, stories, and creative art techniques to initiate, facilitate and deepen the work I do.

A personal note about me, I love photography and capturing both beautiful landscapes and love between families and couples. I currently live in in Dartmouth with my precious cat, Taz and I spend a lot of my free time enjoying the numerous hiking trails within our beautiful province.

I look forward to hearing from you and walking on this journey alongside you,

Emily
