Counselling Therapist Intern
My name is Samantha Nestor, I grew up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and I’ve been working in the human services field for over 10 years. I began in the field as an early childhood educator, however after 2 years in that role, I decided to go back to school to earn a child and youth degree from Mount St. Vincent University. Once graduated, I had the privilege of working at Bryony House, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as a supportive counsellor for those experiencing domestic violence for 7 years, as well as, many of the homeless shelters in Halifax throughout the years. I’ve had pleasure of working with a such a variety of people, specifically with vulnerable populations experiencing an abundance of not only systematic barriers, but also personal barriers. Along the way I recognized that although the clients I worked with may be in a vulnerable position, their courage, strength and resilience was what always shone through. It was this continual experience that inspired me to pursue a career as a psychotherapist.
My areas of interests include Trauma, Intimate partner violence, anxiety, and depression. In my early life, I was exposed to domestic violence and as such, I understand the spectrum of angst those experiences invite into one’s life.
My goal as a psychotherapist is to help others process their trauma, improve their relationships, and learn healthy coping skills in a non-judgmental environment.
I look forward to connecting!
