Welcome!

My name is Corin Mackenzie and I am a registered counselling therapist candidate (RCT-C) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. I have a BArts degree from St. Mary's University (2008), Early Childhood Education Diploma (2018), and a MArts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University (2024).

Are you tired of always feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed? Having trouble finding motivation in our uncertain world? Do your reactions seem big and overreactive? Is the present affected by the past? I am here to help through a nonjudgmental and supportive lens offering you the chance to grow and reconnect with yourself. Through our work I aim to help you gain emotional regulation, motivation and cognitive change in negative thought patterns.

I have always had an interest in working with people and helping them through difficult times, and from an early age I had a deep interest in human behaviour. Life and career path did not always align and for a time management was my passion, however once becoming a parent my happiness dwindled, and I knew I needed to find a better path that aligned with my interests. I became an E.C.E. and took care of one of our most vulnerable populations (those 5 and under) and my interest in human behavior was reborn. Taking advantage of the pandemic, I was able to finally achieve an education in counselling psychology, which leads me to today, finally getting to help others understand, alter, and grow using my knowledge on human behaviour.

I believe that we are all capable of change with an understanding of our own behaviours, triggers, thoughts, as well as an understanding of our biology and environment. I like to look at the individual as a whole and understand that there are many intersecting factors that have gotten us to where we are today. I believe that both nature and nurture are at play and that it is important to understand the role both have in our cognitions and behaviors.

I employ an approach that is tailored to the individual and that can stem in multiple therapy approaches. These approaches are founded in Cognitive Behavioral ideology with a person-centered approach. Some of the main therapies I use are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and I am currently enrolled in the Gottman Method. I believe that the client is the authority on their own story and so I aim to work collaboratively with clients to find the best way forward. I aim to meet the client where they are in the stages of change and aim to support them in a safe space free from judgement. I work with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, and general difficulties in life that require support in a safe therapeutic setting.

I look forward to working with you!

Corin
