Hello and welcome,
My name is Lori Dawn, and I am a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

I bring over 21 years of experience working in education and 11 years of direct experience supporting the mental health and well-being of children, teens, and families. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a special educator in various educational settings, where I had the privilege of supporting individuals with diverse needs—many of whom faced challenges related to learning, emotional regulation, and social interaction. This work continues to shape my compassionate and informed approach to therapy.

As a counsellor, I have supported clients navigating a wide range of challenges including anxiety, depression, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, trauma, low self-esteem, grief, behaviour issues, relationship struggles, and life transitions. I have extensive experience working with children and youth, including those who are neurodivergent, as well as individuals and families in crisis. I am also passionate about supporting members of the LGBTQIA+ community and am committed to providing culturally responsive and affirming care to clients from diverse backgrounds.

My therapeutic approach is trauma-aware, holistic, and person-centered. I believe that healing is most effective when clients are understood in the context of their environment, relationships, culture, and lived experience. I use an integrative model of counselling, drawing on evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. I also incorporate mindfulness, meditation, creative arts, and movement—particularly when working with children and teens—to create a space that fosters expression, connection, and healing.

You can expect me to approach our work together with empathy, openness, and deep respect for your story. Whether you're navigating personal struggles, major life changes, or seeking growth and self-discovery, I’m here to support you in a way that feels safe, empowering, and aligned with your values and goals.

I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting. But taking this step is already an act of courage and self-care—and I’d be honoured to walk alongside you on your path toward personal wellness.

Looking forward to meeting you,

Lori Dawn

Everyone is Welcome
