Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to visit my profile. My name is Jarah, and I am a Registered Counselling Therapist – Candidate.
Finding the right counsellor can be hard! I can resonate with the experience of seeking out counselling. It can be intimidating and anxiety-inducing. If you’re feeling this way, I want you to know you’re welcome here. Therapy is for all, regardless of what you are experiencing in your life.
I am a married mother of two and grew up with four siblings. Family dynamics can be hard to manage. The thoughts may start seeping in “would things be better if I just left?”, “do they love me anymore?”, “my partner must hate me,” or maybe the voice sounds something more like “you’re not enough” or “no one wants you here,” they are the lies that tell you that you will never measure up. Those thoughts do not dictate who you are! Let’s work together to explore the feelings that are driving us, use them to our advantage and create the newness you deserve.
We struggle with our intimate relationships, but we continue to seek them. We desperately want to be in relationship with one another, yet there can be so much pain and hurt by them. My passion is working with individuals, relationships, and families to help rebuild your connections and fight back against the voices that might be driving you. Let’s create safety together.
Teens/Young Adults:
I love working with teens. I have volunteered with many different youth organizations, worked with youth residents, and studied youth in my undergraduate degree. What I have learned is that being a teen or young adult can suck. My hope is that together we can find ways for you to utilize the tools that you have and make the stresses of life easier to manage.
Individuals:
I also enjoy exploring issues related to trauma, attachment, and mood disorders. Through individual therapy, we will explore your strengths and abilities to overcome different concerns. It is difficult to handle some of these problems alone. Joining together in therapy can make goals feel more attainable.
Couples:
Couples counselling is another area of interest for me. Intimate relationships can be difficult. Humans are imperfect, and without work, perfect relationships do not emerge. It requires effort. We are born in relationships, we are wounded in relationships, but we can heal in our relationships. When we practice paying attention to each other, our emotions, and creating safety, we can find healing.
Families:
From my own experience of living with a large family and having a family of my own, I have found interest in serving those who are living similarly. There are many systems within a family that can be difficult to navigate. I can resonate with how unhealthy dynamics can affect other corresponding relationships. These experiences allow me to see the effectiveness of therapy and pull from interventions that may best serve you and your family.
You are not broken; you are not in pieces. You are doing your best for the moment you are in. You have the skills to overcome this experience, let’s come together to maximize the strength of your helpful skills. I strive to create a space where you can come exactly as you are. I would love to be a part of your journey, to walk alongside you, your relationship or your family, and experience your story.
I pull from many different therapeutic modalities, such as emotion-focused therapy, gestalt therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and mindfulness therapy. The approach used is based on who you are and your needs. I approach therapy collaboratively. I’ll bring my experience and knowledge into the room, and you’ll bring yourself and your knowledge because YOU are the expert of your life! Together we will figure out how you would like to best meet your goals.
I can’t wait to start working with you!
