Welcome to the ML Family! My name is Sarah and I am a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and a Canadian Certified Counsellor registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

I have an immense passion for working with children and adolescents and I am committed to being a strong ally and advocate for their mental health and wellbeing. I believe in a holistic approach to supporting young people so that they can be happy and healthy as well as thrive in all aspects of their life. In the previous 18 years of my career, before becoming a therapist, I have worked closely with children and adolescents as well as their families in educational settings. With a background in and specific training as a special educator, I have had the opportunity to work with amazingly diverse people who often experience unique challenges in life that go unnoticed or misunderstood.

I have experience navigating the complex mental health needs of children and adolescents with ASD, ADHD, LD, ODD, CD, OCD, anxiety and related phobias, school-induced anxiety, depression, suicide ideation/thoughts, trauma, grief, transitional life changes and more. From a therapeutic perspective, I like to work from an integrative approach where we work together to figure out what therapy interventions can provide a more personalized experience for you. The modalities I like to incorporate into my practice include Narrative Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and Solutions-Focused Therapy. I recognize that children and adolescents need options and choice as they learn to explore their interpersonal skills and struggles. I like to incorporate creative arts and movement into the therapeutic process and other forms of expression to facilitate and encourage new understandings.

The therapy I provide is grounded in trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches. I believe in providing my clients with support through a strong sense of safety, trust, honesty, predictability, collaboration and empowerment. I will come to our sessions with curiosity and interest in you as a person, as I Iisten to your life story from a place of gratitude. I hope that you will feel comfortable in the open, non judgemental and sensory friendly spaces we have created. I strongly believe that each individual has the capacity to find their way through difficult experiences and emotions by learning more about themselves. Through this personal growth comes the capacity for healing, and through healing we can find new meaning and purpose in life. Coming to therapy can be overwhelming and difficult for many reasons but I hope that we get the opportunity to work together as you take this next step in your path to personal wellness.

Looking forward to meeting you,

Sarah

Everyone is Welcome
