Hello and Welcome!

My name is Alison Fahie (she/her) and I am a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. I hold degrees from St. Francis Xavier University (BA Sociology) and Yorkville University (MA Counselling Psychology).

My approach is from a client-centered, culturally-sensitive lens, understanding that my clients are the experts of their own lives. From a trauma-informed perspective, I strive to create an atmosphere of safety and trust for clients, recognizing the impact our past experiences can have on our present-day functioning. Through our work together, we will navigate the complexities of your unique journey, fostering healing, resilience, and personal growth.

In my work with individuals, I incorporate practices from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), as well as other approaches. Most of my work is done in an integrative way, which means that we will work collaboratively to find the most effective modalities for you.

In my work with children, I incorporate play therapy with a mindfulness and polyvagal- centered approach. This means that while we’re using play to connect and build trust with your child, mindfulness, emotional literacy, and nervous system regulation techniques will also be integral to our time together.

At the heart of my practice is the belief that true well-being encompasses a holistic or bio-psycho-sociocultural approach. It’s important to me to connect the dots between stress and the nervous system and the intricate interplay between mind, body, and soul. I believe that acknowledging the mind-body connection is crucial for comprehensive healing and I integrate this awareness into my work with clients. By incorporating somatic Therapy techniques, I aim to help clients navigate the physical and emotional aspects of their experiences, promoting a sense of balance and well-being. My practice is rooted in a heart-centered approach, where empathy and understanding form the foundation of our therapeutic relationship. I believe deeply in the power of compassion to facilitate healing and transformation. Together, we will work to explore and address the root causes of distress, with the intention of fostering a sense of empowerment and resilience.

As a lover of research and learning, I am committed to ongoing professional development, staying informed on evidence-based therapeutic modalities to provide the highest quality care. However, when I’m not working, I can usually be found on a long walk around my neighbourhood, in the forest, or near the ocean. I also enjoy yoga, reading, writing, and spending time with family and friends.

I’m so grateful that you’re here!

Alison

Everyone is Welcome
